MRS. COLLINS' First GRADE!
Welcome to Room 1! First grade is a busy year full of reading, writing and math. I look forward to my time with your child this year. This website will be all about first grade and hopefully help with any questions you may have.
We will be working together to learn and have a great year!
School begins at 8:13
Lunch: 11:25-12:13
Dismissal: 3:19
Snack
We will be having a mid-morning nutrition break every day. Please send in a healthy snack for your child each day. Some great ideas are fruit or vegetable slices, string cheese, crackers or cereal bars. Please make sure the snack is dry (no fruit cups, drinks, veggie dips) due to the fact we will be eating on our work surface, making spills very difficult to clean up. Candy, cookies and chips will not be allowed as a morning snack. Keeping sugar content low will help keep our minds sharp and focused! Thank you in advance!
Binders
Each day your child will bring their STAR Binder home. This binder will include homework or any work they were unable to finish during the day. All work should be completed and returned the following day.
School Supplies This year, the school sent a suggested supply list for First Grade. Please make sure your name is clearly marked on your backpack and lunch box. It would be a good idea to label clothing, shoes, boots and coats as well. This should cut down on the trips to the lost and found!
Homework I strongly feel fourth grade sets the foundation for life long patterns in responsibility and study habits. It is a great opportunity to exercise our responsibility muscles and develop stronger, positive and productive study skills. Even having a homework routine and getting backpacks ready at night, can eliminate early morning rushing and help to establish positive habits for years to come. Homework will always be designed to create quality time with your child and reinforce skills. It is also a wonderful time to communicate with your child about what they are learning.
Recess
The fourth grade will be going out to recess each day weather permitting. We try to get out every chance we get to give our bodies and minds a break from all our hard work in the classroom. It is important that we remember we live in Michigan. In the fall it is important to have light jackets in case it is still cool in the morning or as we approach cooler weather. It is much easier to take jackets off than to not have something and be cold. I always suggest layers!! As for shoes, this is my suggestion:
Crocs are cool,
Flip flops are fun,
And sandals are nice in the sun,
BUT athletic shoes are AWESOME for school.
This will help when playing outside to prevent injuries. Thanks for your cooperation!
